Exercise: Once again proven to be a good thing!

This morning (ya… we work Saturdays) the General Manager handed me a article from the CBC “Alzheimer’s prevention strategy prescribes exercise” (you can find it by clicking here).  According to the article being active for half an hour a day, even if it’s only in 10 minute burst, can reduce the probability of developing Alzheimer’s or other degenerative brain disease by 38%.

What sort of activities are they suggesting? Simple everyday activities like parking further away from the entrance, taking the stairs, or even doing household chores will all help. For a more social option way not try walking, running, and dancing with friends.

“Just being with other people who are enjoying something with you takes away the isolation that can contribute to apathy, more cognitive impairment and feelings of depression,” said Dr. Tiffany Chow, who treats people with Alzheimer’s and prescribes exercise for them at Baycrest in Toronto.

Recently we’ve been looking at expanding our offerings to the public. One of the things we are looking at is hosting Retreats and Getaways. Imagine a Grandparent/Grandchild fishing tournament learning how to Salsa Dance or simply exploring the forest. If you have a group (or know of someone with a group), and are looking for a venue to hold it, we just might be what you’re looking for. To learn more about booking your Retreat or Getaway, please contact Karen by email (sales@barklake.com) or by phone at 888-517-9999.
