Theme Based Programs Last of the MohicansOverview: The Last of the Mohicans theme is based on the history of Canada's colonization. Working well within the grade 6 - 12 curriculum, the groups are broken down into 3 separate teams; French, English, and Native groups. The groups work together on challenges and survival skills trying to outwit the other teams for points. The team with the most points will be well on their way to winning. However the focus of the activities will change on the last day as we introduce the American invaders that all of the Canadians must work together to maintain all that they have earned so far. This will take place as a relay activity that focuses on beneficial team work skills (Stretcher carry, communications stations, building sites, archery shooting, navigation, and de-coding). Outcome: Curriculum linked: history, social studies, physical education. Teambuilding and cooperation, communication, goal setting and character education. Groups Recommended: Theme suited for high functioning, high discipline and physically capable groups: Cadets, Student Athletic Council, Student Council, College/University Groups, Leadership Groups, Corporate team building or skill development. Prospectors Cache Overview: The Prospectors Cache focuses on group's opportunity to experience teamwork and team development while trying to complete a series of challenges. The group is broken down into groups of treasure hunters who need to secure maps, compasses, boats, skill sets and gear in order to complete the activities. Their final goal is to find a buried treasure, build a functioning raft and sail both home before the allotted time runs out. Outcome: To do this they will need to develop new skills, manage their time and work together as a team. This will help represent the difficulties at work and the effort needed to move towards their goals together. Groups Recommended: This theme is suited and designed for corporate groups. It can be modified for other groups (College/University, Leadership, SOLE, and Cadet Groups) however, this is a very intense full day program. Lord of the Flies Overview: Based on the novel, this theme demonstrates teamwork and group dynamics by capitalizing on the 'shipwreck' effect. The group will be split into three groups and told they are in competition for valuable resources that they will all need to survive. This will help raise the level of completion in all activities. Each group will have a symbol (Fire, Earth & Water) that they will have to find and trade in for supplemental goods that they need to survive. Every group will lose six trusted members and gain six new members from other groups. With all of the individualistic survival aspects flourishing they will discover that they need Fire, Earth and Water to work together to survive. Outcome: To do this they will need to develop new skills, manage their time and work together as a team to develop conflict resolution skills and make good choices. Groups Recommended: This theme is suited and designed for high school and adult groups. This is a full day program. Archeological Dig ProgramOverview: The archeological dig program is designed to give participants a chance to experience the history from a different angle. There are three dig sites; a Logging/Coureur-de-bois, a Native and a Pre-historic. The sites have twelve areas, and within each there is either a related task or an artifact which needs to be unearthed. The tasks are designed to simulate what life was like back in the perspective time period. The students are encouraged to unearth all of the artifacts, and participate in the challenges related to their time line. Outcome: Curriculum linked: history, social studies, physical education. Teambuilding and cooperation, communication, goal setting. To have students participate actively in an archeological dig site for reinforcement of educational, and situational leadership. For specific information, please talk to us about the grade 5 Citizen and Heritage focus. Groups Recommended: Theme suited for groups seeking team building opportunities. |
