This just in… Spring to Arrive Early At Bark Lake!

This just in…  Spring to Arrive Early At Bark Lake!

With Files from Canadian Press

Irondale, Ont. – While some of Canada’s more famous weather prognosticating rodents ran for the hills (or dove underground as the case maybe)earlier this morning, Bark Lake’s very own Dug the Meteorologist however is predicting an early spring, for the greater Bark Lake area at least. Canada's most famous weather prognosticating rodent has disappointing news for those who've had enough of winter.

When asked why he felt spring was going to arrive early to Bark Lake Dug responded, “Summer camp registration is already well underway!  You can’t have summer without spring, so spring must be around the corner.”

Folklore has it that if a groundhog sees his shadow on Groundhog Day he'll flee to his burrow, heralding six more weeks of winter - if he doesn't, it means an early spring.

The origins of the tradition aren't clear, but it's likely related to the fact that Groundhog Day falls midway between the start of winter and the beginning of spring.

Earlier today Wiarton Willie, Nova Scotia's Shubenacadie Sam, Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania all saw their shadows, heralding six more weeks of winter… for the rest of the world at least.
